Operating Engineer
The Operating Engineer is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment in forestry, land management, and fuels reduction environments. This role supports project execution by performing excavation, material handling, land clearing, and fire mitigation work using a variety of specialized machinery.
Operating Engineers work closely with field crews, project managers, and supervisors to ensure work is completed according to project specifications, safety standards, and environmental requirements. This position requires strong technical skill, situational awareness, and a commitment to equipment care and job site safety.
Key Responsibilities:

Operate heavy equipment including dozers, excavators, loaders, track carrier masticators, TimberPro equipment, and other forestry machinery

Perform land clearing, mastication, fuels reduction, fire break construction, and site preparation

Follow all safety protocols, operating procedures, and environmental guidelines

Conduct pre-operation inspections and perform routine equipment maintenance
-
Identify equipment issues and report maintenance needs promptly

Work collaboratively with ground crews and project leadership to meet project timelines

Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in forest and field environments
Qualifications & Skills:

Proven experience operating heavy equipment in construction, forestry, or land management settings

Knowledge of safe equipment operation and job site safety practices

Ability to work in rugged, outdoor environments and variable terrain

Strong mechanical awareness and respect for equipment care
-
Ability to follow project plans, direction, and safety requirements
-
CDL preferred, but not required (depending on equipment and role)
